Second Annual Mill Race Marathon

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The countdown is on for Columbus's 2nd annual Mill Race Marathon. The race is set to take place in Columbus Ind. on Sept. 27, 2014. In partnership with the city of Columbus the race is powered by Cummins along with main sponsors, MainSource Bank and Columbus Regional Health.

"Last year’s inaugural race was an overwhelming success. We found we could broaden the appeal and commitment to healthy lifestyles by engaging the community. With nearly 4,500 participants and many more spectators in 2013, we are hoping to make this year even larger," said Laura Chasse, Cummins Inc.

"On behalf of all the sponsors, we are excited to be a part of something that brings the entire
community together for the second year in a row," concluded Chasse.

With less than 110 days left until this year's race, there are many exciting changes to announce from last year's race. A significant change from last year is the location of the start/finish. The new start/finish line has been moved to Washington Street. This year the food and refreshments for runners at water stations and the finish line have been improved. Also once runners cross the finish line, they can head over to the "Finish on Fourth Street" after- race party and celebration kicking off at 11 a.m.

Runners competing in the half or full marathon will be eligible to enter to win a Cummins-powered 2014 Dodge RAM 2500 Heavy Duty Truck. This year's sponsor of the 5K, SIHO Insurance Services, will be giving away $5,000 in fitness equipment to top finishers of the 5K race. Cash prizes and gift cards will be given to the top finishers of each race.

The Mill Race Marathon serves as a qualifier for the BostonMarathon and is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF).The marathon, half-marathon, and 5K courses cover the flat scenic areas of Columbus. All proceeds will benefit the Healthy Communities and Columbus Park Foundation.

"SIHO Insurance Services is very pleased to be the sponsor of the 5K. Our involvement with the 5K is very intentional as the spirit of this particular race is not about competitive running, it is about personal health and fitness and most of all fun," said Marc Rothbart, SIHO Sr. Vice President.
